i need to buy a headlight for my dirtbike and i was wondering if i needed a stator or not...?

it doesn't have eletric start
You probably have a stator since it is part of the alternator which generates electricity. If you have a battery, you probably have a stator.
If you have a battery it is relatively easy to hook up the headlight. Make sure you have a fuse.
If you are just going to buzz around in the dark the headlight should do the trick. If you are thinking about riding on the road you may need a lot more than a headlight: tail light with brake light, turn signals, horn, etc.
12 volt electricity is pretty simple stuff but disconnect the battery first and always wire in a fuse in case you hook something up wrong it will just pop the fuse and not burn up your whole wiring system.

How to install a healight/ taillight on a dirtbike?
i have a cr85 honda either between 2000 to 2002 year i need to know how to put headlights/tailights on it so i can ride with my buddies at night and also how much it would cost to do it all.... also there is no battery on it and only has the kick start... thanks 
i would recomend a rechargable battery powerd bicycle headlight that clamps to the handle bars .. maybe two of em? one on each side .. i think they would be bright enough for the trail n hold a long enough charge for a good ride check out ebay .. or walmart w/e floats ur boat
another thought would be helmet lights they have them made for motorcycle helemets and a rechargable battery pack that you put in your pocket or clip to your pants and it comes with a charger, they have cheaper versions made for bicycle helmets that might work just as good

personaly when i had this problem i took a cordless drill battery "i had 5 in rotation for my dewalt drill" and a pair of car /truck aftermarket fog lights from walmart made some brackets to mount them and the battery on the forks
and went night ridinn hope it helps!!!
