Do kids today know what BMX stands for?
other than it being a bicycle.
i was a huge fan of BMX when I was a kid in the 80's
Bicycle Motocross or Bicycle MX
MX is an abbreviation for Motocross
I wasn't expecting for anyone to choose between "Bicycle Motocross" and "Bicycle MX" because they mean the same thing, one is an abbreviation.
Kids today think BMX means wearing skin-tight jeans, hanging off their a$$, having jet black hair hanging under a cap, and being somewhat obnoxious and annoying.
I too was a fan of BMX in the 80's when I was growing up. I always wanted to own a Kuwahara freestyle bike, but could never afford one.
These days, I'm 32yrs old, and I have the luxury of an ample weekly pay packet, so 4yrs ago I decided to get serious about my riding again, splurged $2000 on a KHE Flatland bike, and started riding on a daily basis. I'm currently the Australian National Amatuer champion in Flatland BMX. Not bad for an old man, hey..?? lol
Also, back in the day, a Freestyle rider did it all.. flatland, street, vert and park. Kids today don't know the true meaning of 'Freestyle BMX'.
EDIT: Tj, the current 'style' of street and park riders is not a 'style' anymore, it's almost a uniform. When more than half the people in a sport wear the same kind of clothes, in the same way, it stops becoming 'style', and becomes a uniform. How come Flatlanders don't adopt this kind of mentality..?? Because our age range isn't 12-20, it's more like 20-40, and people that age already have their OWN style.

How do you start your own motocross team for kids?????
I helped run, sponsor, and coach a BMX team for 7 years. The strategy would be the same for you. First off, do you ride? If not, do you have a coach in place? Finding sponsors is important, however you need a foundation to attract good sponsors.
Once you get a coach, he will should be able to scout for talent. I always looked for the kids (and teens & even adults) that wanted to win more so than the kids that already did. It's good to have a balance though because as long as the good kids are willing to help the ones that want to learn, you can help to create an actual team, instead of a group of kids wearing the same Jersey.
Aquiring sponsors takes networking as well as selling skills. Show potential sponsors what they can benefit by helping your team. Be sure to bring a team photo to the initial meeting and never make promises you can't keep. I hope this helps. You can email me if you have more questions. Good Luck to you!
