Is motocross right for me?
I really want to ride motocross, and I've been riding for as long as I can remember. I started off young and now I have a 380cc 2 stroke KTM off roading bike. I really love the idea of racing, but my parents don't. I've tried talking to them but my mom thinks I'm to busy, and it will be expensive.
My schedule is currently:
School, Scouts, and a private camping group I'm in. It's actually more hectic than it seems.
So really my question is, how time consuming is the sport? I can just race like once a month maybe to start out and then maybe when I'm older and living on my own I can do it more often. And also, how much does it cost? I already have riding gear (I just need a chest protector instead of my full upper body guard I use for off roading), so how much are the races, and local tracks for practice?
Also, how would I start racing? Just sign up for one and show up?
Motocross is as time consuming as you want it too be. Many club level racers only race maybe once a month or even once every 6 to 8 weeks. If you want to step it up to racing other events instead of just at once particular track then it can become time consuming and of course the cost increases. The more you race the more you pay for entries and the better you get racing so then you are looking for add ons to make your bike faster as otherwise you cannot be competitive. Entry fees become costly if you race every weekend. Add to that the fuel and maintenance for the bike and you have your hand in your pocket a lot. But just for racing occassionally it is not all that bad.
Then you get to the other problem that if you are involved in other things you cannot know when races will be scheduled in your area so you may end up with clashes with commitments. I know my sons made it to state level gymnastics are getting through regional and their gym teacher was pretty pissed as they had a Hare Scramble scheduled for the same day. The bikes won of course and they did not compete at gymnastics.
I am not really familiar with the bike you have so you should check that it is suitable for racing mx with as if it is just a basic off road bike it may not have the necessary suspension to deal with jumping.
But look for places close to where you live that have tracks and contact them to find out how to get involved and do some practice days as that would be the first step before racing. Then once you have done a number of these you can progress to racing.

How Important is Racing Psychology in Motocross?
Motocross is an extremely popular sport worldwide. This death-defying sport that we know today has attracted and will continue to attract millions of spectators and viewers. Similarly, there are thousands of people who are interested in practicing motocross, either at a professional level or at an amateur one.
