I have a 1974 yamaha 175 enduro that does not always spark.?
When I checked the spark at first it sparked then it did not for a few cranks then it sparked on one crank and stoped completely. I took a multimeter to see if elecriciy was coming to the spark plug and it was. So i put a new spark plug in and the same thing happened. Would this be the tension coil?
Could be, but didn't these things have contact breaker points ignition? If so, it could be the condenser or the points as well. If they didn't, then you need a new CDI.
